FAQ
Questions, answered.
The short version of what Spinjam does, what it needs and where your music goes.
What is Spinjam?
An indoor-cycling app that builds the workout from your own music. It analyses the songs you pick and shapes the effort, cadence and recovery around them, with a voice cueing each change.
Do I need a subscription to a music service?
No. Spinjam rides to audio you already have: files on the phone, a folder on a NAS, or the device music library.
Does my music get uploaded?
No. Your audio files never leave the phone, and you do not need an account to build a ride. Spinjam does send derived numbers, such as a song's energy curve and a short fingerprint, so that Live can recognise songs and share analyses between riders. The privacy page has the full list.
Do I need a smart bike?
No. A Bluetooth bike or sensor adds live cadence and power against the target. Without one, you ride to the voice cues and the graph.
Which phones does it run on?
Spinjam is in open beta on iPhone and Android. iPhone installs through TestFlight and Android through Google Play testing, with an APK as the backup. The download page has both.
How much does it cost?
The beta is free. Every beta signup is also entered in a draw for lifetime free access to Spinjam Premium, and between 500 and 1,000 riders win. Everyone else hears what the store release costs before anyone else.
How do I improve my chance in the lifetime Premium draw?
Send constructive feedback from the app after a ride. Once the email field ships in a beta build, add the address you signed up with so the report counts toward your entries. Each report is rated 0 to 3 for how useful it is and adds that many entries. Specific beats long: what happened, in which song, at what point in the ride. The official rules have the detail.
Can I control how closely the ride follows the song?
Yes. One setting runs from Workout first, where the plan keeps its structure, to Jam, where the song leads within safe limits. How it works has the detail.
What is Live mode?
Live rides to whatever is already playing. The phone listens, recognises the song and builds a ride around it as it plays. How it works has the detail.
What is Auto-DJ?
A beat-matched mix of your own tracks, ordered by the workout. It is a switch in Settings and works on music you own.
Does it work with Spotify or Apple Music?
Not for building a ride from a streaming library, because streaming audio cannot be analysed on the phone. Live can still ride to a streaming song playing nearby. Use the microphone, since those apps block internal capture.
What is Spinjam Radio?
A page that shows what the radio stations Spinjam learns from are playing right now, with each station credited and linked. Open Spinjam Radio.
Can I ride a workout again?
Yes. Every ride is saved with what you actually did against the plan, and any of them can be ridden again. Repeat it and measure the progress.
How do I report a problem or a song that rode badly?
Email contact@wiresandwizards.com. A song where the workout and the music disagreed is the most useful report you can send.
