Get Spinjam on your phone.
Spinjam is in open beta. iPhone installs through a TestFlight invite and Android through Google Play testing. The public store listings are on their way.
iPhone & iPad
TestFlight invite pending
Apple routes every pre-release app through TestFlight, its own beta channel.
- iPhone, iOS 15 or later
- Needs the free TestFlight app from the App Store, once
- Build info loads once a build ships
Android
Open beta by request
Request the beta with your Google account email. Signing up sends you straight to the Google Play test invite. A direct APK is the backup.
- Android phone or tablet
- Music files, a NAS folder or the device library
Bring a bike, or don't
Any Bluetooth bike or sensor speaking the standard fitness profiles reports cadence and power live. Without one, Spinjam still builds and coaches the ride. You ride to the cues.
How to install
Spinjam is in beta, so it installs a little differently from a store app. Each path takes about two minutes.
Android, through Google Play testing
Google Play has a private test track for Spinjam. It needs an invite, and after that Play updates the app for you.
-
Get on the tester list
Join the beta with the Google account the phone uses for Play. Spinjam adds that address to the test track by hand. Signing up opens the invite for you.
-
Open the invite link
The invite is a link, not an app. Open it on the phone while signed in to that Google account, then tap Become a tester.
Searching Play for Spinjam finds nothing until this step is done. Test apps never appear in search.
-
Install from Play
The same page now shows Download it on Google Play. Tap it, then Install, as with any app.
-
If Play says the app is already installed
A copy from the APK blocks the Play copy, because the two are signed differently. Uninstall the APK copy first, then install from Play.
-
Updating
New builds arrive through Play's normal updates. Nothing to do.
iPhone and iPad, through TestFlight
Apple allows a pre-release install only through TestFlight.
-
Open the TestFlight link
Tap the TestFlight button above on the iPhone you will ride with.
-
Install TestFlight
First time only, the link prompts an install of Apple's free TestFlight app.
-
Accept and install Spinjam
Tap Accept, then Install in TestFlight. Spinjam lands on the home screen with a small orange dot beside its name, which marks a beta app.
-
Updating
TestFlight installs new builds on its own and can notify you. Each build works for 90 days, and a newer one always arrives before then.
Backup on Android: install the APK directly
An APK is the app as one file. Android lets you install it after one permission prompt. It does not update itself, so Google Play testing is the better route.
Latest build
- Build info loads once a build ships
- SHA-256 of spinjam-latest.apk
Beta build
The beta build carries Spinjam Radio and is for testing.
- Build info loads once a beta ships
- SHA-256 of spinjam-beta.apk
-
Download the file
On the phone, tap Latest APK above. Chrome warns that this file type can harm the phone, which is its standard notice for any APK. Only download the file from spinjam.app, never from a link someone forwarded.
Each download lists its full SHA-256. It catches a download that stopped early, or a file that is not the one on this page. To check it, copy the file to a computer and run
shasum -a 256 spinjam-latest.apkon a Mac, orcertutil -hashfile spinjam-latest.apk SHA256on Windows. For the beta, namespinjam-beta.apkinstead. A different value means a different file: delete it and download again. -
Open it
Tap the download notification, or open the Files app and find
spinjam-latest.apkin Downloads. -
Allow the install, once
The first time, Android says the browser is not allowed to install unknown apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, and go back.
-
Install and open
Tap Install, then Open. If Play Protect asks to scan the app, let it. Then turn the permission back off: Settings, Apps, your browser, Install unknown apps.
-
Updating
Come back to this page and install the new file over the old one. Your rides and settings stay.
If something goes wrong
- Android says App not installed. The file was signed with a different key than the Spinjam already on the phone. If the file did not come from spinjam.app, delete it and keep the app. If it did, you are switching between the APK copy and the Play copy: uninstall Spinjam, then try again.
- The APK download never starts. Some browsers block it. Open this page in Chrome.
- TestFlight says the build is not available. The invite was for an older build that expired. Come back to this page for the current link.
- Play says the item is not found. The phone's Google account has not accepted the invite link, or is not on the tester list.
